Yesterday was just an amazing, powerful, life affirming day!  My old friends Mike and Anthony were working a video for the crowdfunding campaign of Eayikes, a non profit I work on with some friends. They are world renowned hip hop dancers so to have their support meant the world. I just thought that it meant that they were shooting a video where they voice their support. Little did I know that they went and choreographed a whole piece, and brought out members of their crew Kinjaz, and their videographer Jon. It was a pretty profound thing to witness, to see old friends who are masters of their craft using their talents to creating a video to raise awareness to a cause that you believe in with all your heart.

I was able to see dance in a new light. I've always appreciated it and loved to watch it, and to dance like a madman at festivals, but this was different, it was profound. They would ask each other, "what's our intent and motivation?" and they would respond, "It's for the kids" and "Eayikes"! So when they would go through a take and I would watch, it just brought a whole new meaning and appreciation for these folks giving themselves completely.

Thankful for!

  1. Friends who will support your dream!
  2. A new appreciation of dance!
  3. To be able to pick my friends' brains at this stage of their growth and evolution
  4. KINJAZ!
  5. For not giving up on this process when hope wasn't to be found at times, it was all training to gain the perspective of gratitude and see the value of process!!!!

Here it is!!!

Quoteski /// "The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

To see them put their love, sweat, thinking, and bodies on the line to make a video for Eayikes that will hopefully help us reach our crowdfunding goal, and then be able to serve more people and do more programs was a beautiful thing to witness. KINJABANG!!

Peace,
Ray

Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign!

Hey Y'all! We've got about a month left on our crowdfunding campaign push as we march towards building more programs and putting on more events to bring together people, connect them, then empower them to share their gifts with the world! We're at about 40% of our $6500 goal, but we're coming with reinforcements! Our buddies, The Kinjaz, will be releasing a video to their community to share the campaign and encourage donations for Eayikes! How sick is that!!??!

That marks just how big this time is right now. It's a point where all of our ideas and work that we've been putting in for the past 3 years has a real opportunity to break out form our small group of folks and into communities, social circles, and the many friends out there that we haven't met yet. It's hard to describe just the positivity that is circulating, in knowing that steps are happening now so that we can build a sustainable community of people that are motivated to give back, to support people, and to be the greatest version of themselves. There is nothing else that I would rather commit my life then to that cause right there!!!

Thanks for all the support and click the link below to check out the campaign!

The First Eayikes Pop-up Dinner Fundraiser

On Saturday March 12, we hosted our very first Eayikes Pop-up Dinner experience, and what an awesome evening was shared with good friends and good eats! This has been an event we have wanted to put together for a long time, and we finally found a cause to make it happen. With a few upcoming youth and young adult projects, we knew we had to raise some funds, but it also happened to fall right before my birthday... two birds with one stone!

One of the reasons I got so into cooking was the idea that nothing brings people together like a good meal, and some of my fondest memories with family and friends have been around a dinner table. Within Eayikes, our mission is to create spaces like this where people from all walks of life can connect and enjoy each other's company, why not share some delicious food too! Beyond just food and drinks though, we wanted to create an environment that supports creative expression while raising money for a good cause.

We reached out to our wonderful friend Stephanie from the Echo Park Garden Gallery, a great community space in East LA that has now hosted a few of our events. We planned out a 6-course meal, enlisted a few friends to help out... and our first pop-up dinner was created! We themed the meal from my favorite food region in the world, The Mediterranean. We had dishes from Spain, France, Italy and Greece. We also had some great wines of the region for everyone to enjoy with the food.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support, we are all on an amazing journey together to make life a little more enjoyable, and your support is everything. We raised a few hundred dollars to support our programs and specifically our youth. Can't wait for round 2!
